Bariatric Surgery Program at Fletcher AllenThe Bariatric Surgery Program at Fletcher Allen has been recognized by the American College of Surgeons as a Level 1 Bariatric Surgery Center, its highest level.  Our program offers a team approach to weight loss, treating the whole person through an intensive pre-operative period.  Our surgeons, nurse practitioner, dietitians and psychologist all evaluate and counsel the surgical candidate and, with the patient, determine the best surgical option.

Currently, Fletcher Allen offers 3 types of bariatric surgery:

  • Gastric bypass (open or laparoscopic)
  • Gastric banding
  • Gastric sleeve
Fletcher Allen follows eligibility standards set by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in determining which patients qualify for bariatric surgery.  NIH mandates the eligible candidate have BMI (Body Mass Index) of at least 40, or a BMI of 35 with pre-existing co-morbid conditions, such as diabetes, obstructive sleep apnea and hypertension.  Click here to calculate your BMI.
