Since the mid-1950s, Fletcher Allen Health Care has performed tens
of thousands of heart surgeries and cardiac catheterizations. But what's more
important to us than the number of procedures we do is the impact we have on
these patients - giving second chances to people who have so much more life
to live.
Our Affiliation with the University of Vermont
Fletcher Allen, in alliance with the University of Vermont College of Medicine,
is Vermont's only academic health center and one of only 125 such centers in
the country. By linking research, medical education training, and patient care,
we develop new lifesaving drugs, medical devices, and surgical procedures that
improve the quality of health care and our patients' quality of life. We also
have the special responsibility of training the medical professionals of tomorrow.
Cardiac Care
Cardiac care is delivered through two groups at Fletcher Allen,
each designed to provide patients with technologically advanced care:
- University Cardiology Associates is a physician group that has been
dedicated to excellence in clinical care, research, and academic training
for 50 years. Each year, our physicians see more than 12,000 ambulatory
and hospitalized patients, perform approximately 1,500 coronary interventions,
and implant more than 1,000 pacemakers and defibrillators.
- The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Fletcher Allen is a multidisciplinary
group dedicated to the evaluation and treatment of diseases involving
the heart and chest. This specially trained care team includes four
board-certified cardiothoracic surgeons with more than 50 years of combined
experience, plus physicians' assistants, nurses, anesthesiologists,
and support staff who are invaluable to our patients and their families.
Quality of Care
At Fletcher Allen, we live by our mission statement: to improve
the health of the communities we serve. Everything we do is done with
the patients' best interests in mind. Our patients deserve no less.
We constantly seek ways to improve our care by evaluating and using some
of the most advanced technologies available and by contributing to and
staying abreast of all the latest information in the field. In addition,
we lead clinical research studies resulting in new treatments and the
cures of tomorrow and provide continuing medical education to the physicians
in the region. All of this keeps us focused on providing top-quality
care to our patients.
